The Legal Information Clinic at McGill provides a free Commissioner for Oaths service to members of both the McGill and Montreal communities. Commissioners for Oaths are empowered to administer oaths. For example, this means that they can officialize an oath that a person takes before them affirming that the information contained in a certain document is true, or that a certain document is a true copy of the original.
Commissioners for oaths cannot certify that a document is a true copy of its original, or that its contents are true; they can only administer another person’s oath. Please note that this is not the same thing as a notarized document.
